Sports are a form of physical activity governed by a common practice for the purpose of fun or for competition. In order to reach maximum potential, athletes undergo intensive training and workouts and exercise. A sport is an arduous activity which subjects the muscles of the body to constant movement and exhaustion. This makes the players most prone to risk of injuries known as Sports Injuries.
Sports injuries have become such a common occurrence in today’s world and with the increasing competition, the causalities also are on the rise. The most affected parts of the body are the joints, foot, shoulder, hip, neck and spine injuries with sports such as rugby, football, tennis and more.
Traumatic Sports Injuries can be anything from knee injuries, head injuries, to bruises and fractures. They occur due to collision, or wrong twists and turns, falls and so on. Injuries relating to overuse are usually strained ligaments are tendons which get inflamed due to overuse or repetitive strain.
Sports injuries can be fatal or trifling, but nevertheless an injury is an injury, proper treatment and rest should be given to the affected area and due time to let the body heal itself. A badly injured athlete should undergo extensive physiotherapy, rest, and a good rehabilitation program to get back up in his feet again. This long period of rest and recuperation is found to be very frustrating and depressing, if he is unable to cope – then it takes a longer time for him to overcome his depression and fear.
A sports injury should never be ignored however minor it could be, exertion on an already injured part of the body could lead to fatal results. Extra care and caution should be practiced in this area. Any physical activity should be headed by a good warm up and stretching session, increasing strength and suppleness of your body goes a long way in avoiding risk of injury. A strenuous game or sport should be followed by a good rest and ice therapy, if strain or injury is detected.
